Auld Reekie Lodge Gazette
We have yet seen another full year pass and have met and hosted a vast amount of wonderful people. We would like to share with you a few details of our improvements and changes for this upcoming year.
Every year, Urs and I (Diane) are determined to improve Auld Reekie Lodge with not only our great hospitality but also with upgrades, such as new decks, ground improvements, flower gardens and all the little extras to make your stay more comfortable.
Cottage #5 received a new, larger deck. Built stronger, it can accommodate more guests and is complimentary to the look of the "A" frame cottage. We plan on replacing 1 to 2 decks this year.
We have painted our dining room, installed a new fireplace and put up new window treatments. We have also modified our foyer/reception area.
This past year, maintenance has been made to the road. It has been graveled and graded for a smoother ride in and around the Auld Reekie Lodge. For convenience, we have relocated the horseshoe pits and have reinstated the sand beach ball area, close to the water.
This year, we purchased new DVD players and we are providing a DVD library where you can sign out movies freely. We are planning to build a new and improved screened-in fish cleaning station, if time allows. All standard boats have been upgraded with a portable fish finder.
Fishing at Auld Reekie Lodge is superb. Guests fishing Stumpy Lake have averaged up to 62 fish per boat per day. Hangingstone Lake was producing large numbers of 5 lb small-mouth bass. Kids were really having fun fishing Hangingstone. Gowganda Lake is a little harder to fish as it is much larger and deeper but the sizes and numbers are there. The more you fish Gowganda Lake the easier it is to find the fish. So don't give up on this lake. We are happy to make suggestions.
