Auld Reekie Lodge nestles among birch and pine trees on the northwest tip of Gowganda Lake. Situated 2 miles by road or 1 mile by water from the village of Gowganda (population 76). Rated four star by Tourism Ontario, Auld Reekie Lodge is a true escape into the beauty of Northern Ontario's wilderness. Gowganda Lake is an alkaline-based body of water with a shoreline, which is both rugged and unspoiled. It extends for 35 miles. A contour map shows why it is a fisherman's paradise with it's many rocky shoals, weeded areas, sharp drop-offs and stumpy shallows, offering a variety of fish. Northern Pike, Pickerel/Walleye, Small Mouth Bass, Perch and Siscoe Herring. Water flows into the lake's East Branch by way of Stumpy Lake Gorge. Stumpy Lake is well known for it's excellent Walleye fishing. It can be reached by either 4-wheel drive or portage. At the south end of the lake, the cascading waters from Hangingstone Falls provide a cool summer sanctuary for deep-water fish. There is a 198 ft deep fishing hole right at the falls. Above the falls are Hangingstone & Frying Pan Lakes. Nothing less than spectacular for Small Mouth Bass. Spring fisherman will be happy to know there is no closed season on Small Mouth Bass. Truly incredible fishing can be expected on our backwood lakes, which surround us, including some trout lakes. Let our experienced guides take you to a lake so unspoiled that you will swear you are the first to fish there. It is not unusual to see moose, bear, beaver, otter, wolf, lynx and fox, so bring lots of film. There is much more than fishing at Auld Reekie. Relax in the wilderness and let nature wrap you with her scent and beauty. Watch countless species of birds. Hike the trails & woods. Photograph nature's back yard. Rockhound or berry & mushroom pick. Enjoy the sauna, sandy beach, kayak, paddle boat, volleyball and horseshoes. At the end of the day enjoy fellowship and around the campfire and watch the spectacular show of the Dancing Northern Lights.
When you arrive at our 4 star facilities you'll find 6 tastefully pine interior decorated cottages. Of these 6 cottages 3 are chalet style and 3 are bungalows. Ranging in size from 2 bedroom cottages, which sleep 4, to a 4 bedroom, which sleeps up to 11. All feature fully carpeted bedrooms and living rooms. The cottages are equipped with 4 piece baths, while the fully equipped kitchens feature such modern conveniences as electric coffee makers, microwave ovens as well as fridge, stove and toaster. The bedrooms are furnished with 2 quality beds and have ample space for your clothing and gear. All linens are supplied but please bring your own personal towels. Your private deck overlooks the lake with an incredible view and satellite T.V. in every cottage.
Gowganda is surrounded by hundreds of miles of wilderness abundant with wildlife, both big and small. Moose, bear, wolves, and deer live in our forests. The variety of birds include partridge, ducks, geese, and woodcocks. To increase the chances of success, our guides use the many rivers, lakes and old roads which penetrate deep into the forests. The hunting laws in our area are forever changing. To keep you up to date, upon request, we can provide you with current information.
Whether you are hunting for Moose, Black Bear or Grouse, the forest surrounding Gowganda with it's old logging and mining roads, which penetrate deep into the woods, offer a hunting experience like no other. Northern Ontario is known for it's abundant wildlife.
Our Black Bear guide who boasts over 20years experience pre baits our sites and will transport you to the most active stand. Our success rate consistently exceeds 88% for the kill and 100% for sighting.
We offer 2 different bear packages to accommodate your needs.
Auld Reekie will not exceed 20 bear hunts per year, hence the success rate.
Auld Reekie Lodge has 6 tastefully decorated self catering cottages, 3 chalet style & 3 bungalows. They range in size from 2 bedroom cottages which sleep 4 to 4 bedroom cottages which sleep 8.
All cottages are finished in pine. They feature full carpeted living rooms and modern 4-piece bathrooms. The fully equipped kitchens, include such conveniences as full electric range with oven, microwave, electric coffee maker and toaster. Each bedroom has ample closet space and two quality beds for your sleeping comfort. All bed linens are supplied but please bring your own personal towels. Your private deck overlooks the lake. Satellite TV in every cottage.

Auld Reekie also features 6 luxury suites with climate control and daily maid service. The pine interiors are carpeted throughout. The living room features cathedral ceilings. Each suite is equipped with satellite T.V. and bar fridge. Glass doors lead to the private patio, which overlooks the lake. Even the 4 piece bathrooms have been designed to give you the feeling of luxury.
Dining At Auld Reekie
Come into our licensed dining lounge and sit down to some
of the most delicious meals you've ever enjoyed. Our guests rate our meals at 5
stars. A mix of Canadian, French and Swiss dishes served on hot plates in a
friendly atmosphere. It is an experience of taste you will never forget.
Starting with breakfast, served from 6:30 am - 8:00 am, we feature a choice of
breakfast where you can even ask for steak and eggs. We provide you with a
packed lunch or everything you will need to make your own shore lunch. Finally,
dinner, which consists of a 3-course meal, features our very own homemade soups,
salad and vegetables prepared with care and flair. After dinner spoil yourself
with some of our homemade cakes, pies and other fresh baked goodies.

Upon reaching North Bay via Highway 11, or 17 continue north on 11 to New Liskeard. At New Liskeard turn west on Highway 65 to Highway 560. Continue on Highway 560 west to Gowganda and Auld Reekie. From Sudbury take Highway 144 to Highway 560 and drive east until you reach Auld Reekie.
Also available is a commercial air flight to North Bay, On, with a customer shuttle to the Lodge. Please inquire for details.
